Dear Parent/Guardian,
Thank you to all of you who donated things for our special activities last week. The kids had a great time, and that is because of parents like you! This week I will finish up mid-term testing so be looking for that report on the 21st. This grading period is getting tougher so your child’s grades may be a little lower if they are struggling with our new skills.

Catholic Schools’ Week
Due to Catholic Schools’ Week this will be a little shorter! The students enjoyed wearing their different clothing each day. On Monday they got to follow clues to a special treat. Tuesday was a chance to get a prayer partner and work with that person on a special project. Wednesday, we got to do our service project of taking a fruit basket, picture from the prayer partners, and singing to some businesses that supported our school with donations to the Ball and Auction. Thursday, we played a Minute to Win It game and had a banana split party. Friday wrapped things up with bowling and fruit salad. I hope your child told you about Hi Hi the Bible Guy. Each morning the children got to see him talk about a fruit of the spirit. You can look him up online if you want to see what your child learned.

Mass
Fr. Don is returning from Sri Lanka later this week. We will start going to Mass again next week on Tuesday. Our class will get our first chance to read on that day. There will a paper coming home with your child if he/she has something to read that day. If your child does not get a chance this time, we will have 3 more weeks when it will be our turn so everyone will get an opportunity at some point. If a paper comes home with your child, please be sure to practice. That is homework so please help your child feel more confident by practicing at home!

Reading
Last week we were introduced to some new vocabulary words, read a book called Is It You?, practiced telling which word out of 3 had a different beginning sound, told the middle sounds of words, and answered comprehension questions. We will be finishing our current theme and will take our test later this week. You will probably not get the results until next week since there is a section that is one-on-one and I have limited time to do that and mid-term testing.

Math
We are almost finished with our chapter on measurement. Last week the students got to practice measuring using cubes and paperclips. This week we will be introduced to capacity and heavy versus light. We will review all the ways we have learned to measure and get ready for our test!

Upcoming Events
·         We will decorate valentine bags this week in our classroom. If your child is going to send valentines, they must send one for each student in our class.

                                                                                                         Wishing you peace,
                                                                                                          Mrs. Benner
